Sony has confirmed that it will hold its next Xperia launch event on May 13 at 11:00 AM Japan time. The company is expected to unveil the new Xperia 1 VIII smartphone during the event.
In a short teaser announcement, Sony said, “When brilliance comes full circle, the next one is coming.” The company did not reveal detailed specifications or product names.
Alongside the Xperia 1 VIII, Sony is also expected to introduce the new A7R VI full-frame camera and a 100-400mm f/4.5 GM lens.
Leaks and early reports suggest the Xperia 1 VIII may come with a refreshed design. The phone is expected to feature a square-shaped rear camera module. Reports also indicate the device could be slightly wider and thicker than the previous Xperia model.
The smartphone is rumoured to include a new telephoto camera sensor between 1/3.0-inch and 1/2.0-inch in size. Other expected cameras include a 16mm ultra-wide sensor and a 24mm main camera.

Battery life could also see an improvement. Rumours point to a “2-day battery” claim for the new flagship device.
Leaked preliminary listings suggest the Xperia 1 VIII may start shipping from June 26 in some markets. The reported price is €1,868.99 in Germany and £1,728 in the UK.
Sony has not officially confirmed the phone’s specifications, pricing, or release timeline yet. More details are expected during the company’s May 13 launch event.
